At Smith+Nephew, we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. As a Precision Injection Molding Operator, you’ll convert raw materials into finished, high‑quality medical components that support patients around the world.

A day in the life

You begin your shift by reviewing work orders and preparing the molding area. You’ll visually examine molds and related equipment before installation, confirming everything is production‑ready. Throughout the day, you’ll set up, run, and monitor molding equipment, checking product quality with appropriate inspection tools and completing documentation that keeps our process compliant and audit‑ready. You’ll collaborate closely with teammates and escalate equipment concerns to engineers and PM technicians. You’ll rotate between tasks inside and outside of a cleanroom, all while keeping the workspace safe and spotless. You work under moderate supervision and take pride in consistent, reliable output.

What you’ll do

• Perform pre‑install visual checks of molds and associated equipment before loading into the molding machine.
• Set up, operate, and inspect output from molding equipment to transform raw materials into finished components.
• Verify equipment function, including ejector actuation, smooth mold open/close, and free movement of side cores; stay alert to abnormal noise or water leaks and promptly notify engineers/PM technicians.
• Use the correct gauges and inspection devices to confirm product quality.
• Complete all required records in line with Smith+Nephew policies, the Quality Manual, and applicable standards and regulations (including FDA, QSR, and other domestic/international requirements); finish assigned training on schedule.
• Execute labor transactions and barcode scanning accurately.
• Contribute in a team setting—communicate clearly, listen actively, and participate in product and process improvements.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness, and basic equipment care; perform simple maintenance and keep the area clean as needed.
• Carry out additional assignments inside and outside the cleanroom as directed.

What you’ll bring

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to attain certified operator status where required.
• Read/write English fluently; basic math; meticulous documentation; legible handwriting; able to perform simple inspections.
• 0–6 months of experience in medical device manufacturing (required).
• Physical demands: stand for extended periods; lift at least 50 lbs.

Tools and tech

• Proficiency in injection molding.
• Hands‑on with molding equipment, including rotational molding machines.
